The July opening ceremonies did a fine job of capturing the sense of time,
history, and the entertwining of generations. On the edge of each row of
seats is an image of the old Seattle Rainier Fred Hutchinson -- shown on
the banner unfurled here. Hutchinson's grandson ran the bases, into the
waiting arms of Ken Griffey Jr. and Jay Buhner. The current Mariners
starting lineup took there positions while various Seattle area baseball
players, from old Negro League Steelheads, to Rainiers, to women's
league, Pilots and orginal Mariners players stood at each position with
a local Little Leaguer.
